Thato Moeng (born 25 April 1986) is a South African sports broadcaster best known for working for Supersport International. She has also worked as a radio host at Vision View Sports Radio.

Moeng wears other hats as a voice-over artist and Master of Ceremonies. She was one of the SuperSport presenters who hosted the FIFA Confederations Cup.

Early Life

Thato Moeng Sibiya was born on 25 April 1986 in Mabopane, in the North West, on the border of Pretoria. She is the eldest of four children.

At a young age, Moeng moved to a boarding school, where she developed a passion for softball, netball, and swimming. Since she was a child, she has always been into sports and followed her father to the stadium.

Education

Thato attended a Primary Convent and Boarding school. She completed her high school at Pro Arte Alphen Park, majoring in drama.

Moeng holds a degree in Journalism from the Tshwane University of Technology.

Career

Moeng joined Johannesburg’s youth station YFM’s Y Academy as one of the first group of interns in 2006. She also worked on the DJ Sbu Breakfast Show.

Before working as a sportscaster, she worked as a political journalist. She was a reporter for Essential Rush Sports and also worked as a news and sports manager for the station.

In 2011, Thato joined SABC’s 5FM as the station’s first female sports presenter on the weekend breakfast show hosted by Thomas Msengana. She worked for five years at 5FM before moving to Vision View Sports Radio.

At Vision View Sports Radio, Moeng hosts the Morning Flow on weekdays (Mondays to Fridays). In 2010, she later joined Supersport as a co-presenter for their marquee sportainment show, Thursday Night Live with Marawa.

Among the highlights of her career are the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup and the 2018 FIFA World Cup. She is also the host of the only magazine TV show offered by the National First Division.

Moeng is an in-studio and field broadcaster for the ABSA Premier Soccer League, CAF Africa Cup of Nations, and FIFA Confederations Cup. She ranks among the “most popular figures” on SuperSport.

She hosted many top sporting events, including the South African Sports Awards and the Gauteng Sports Awards. She also hosted the recurring end-of-season awards for a PSL outfit, Supersport United FC. Nounouche celebrated her on its 11th issue cover star in June 2023.

In 2024, Moeng received the SABC Woman in TV Award at GSport. She hosted the broadcaster announcement for the 2023 Netball World Cup.

Personal Life

Thato Moeng is her long-time partner, Dumisani Sibiya, on 22 December 2016. They had their wedding in Muldersdrift, west of Johannesburg. The duo met through mutual friends in December 2006.

She has a daughter, Thato.
