Thabang Molaba (born 18 December 1994) is a South African actor and model. He is best known for playing KB Molapo in the Netflix series Blood & Water and Gift Mabuza on the Mzansi Magic soap opera The Queen.

Molaba has also played in other roles, including as Mak in the drama “The Queen” and “Diamond City”. He has also modeled for campaigns with Edgars, Wimpy, and 5FM.

Early Life

Thabang Molaba was born on 18 December 1994 in Harrismith, Free State. His parents, Richard and Lisbeth Molaba, are teachers.

Growing up, he was bullied in school for having crooked teeth and wearing glasses. He became interested in acting at 17 years, after watching Shakespeare’s Othello during a visit to Hilton College in KwaZulu-Natal. His parents, after noticing his love for acting, insisted that he complete his studies first.

Education

Molaba obtained a Diploma in Logistics and Supply Chain Management from Tshwane University of Technology. He also attended one-on-one classes with actress Patricia Boyer.

Career

Thabang Molaba made his television debut after appearing in a promo segment for the Comedy Central sitcom I Live with Models.

He made his acting debut on Mzansi Magic’s The Queen. He portrayed the recurring role of Gift Mabuza, appearing alongside Rami Chuene, Connie Ferguson, and Themba Ndaba.

In February 2018, Molaba appeared in the Mzansi Magic telenovela Ring of Lies as Fumane, a rural boy who comes to Johannesburg. He performed in The Glass Menagerie, which is a five-character memory play by Tennessee Williams.

As an actor, Molaba is signed with Legends Performers and Artists Management, based in Johannesburg. He starred as Mak in the SABC1 drama series Diamond City, which premiered on Sunday, 14 October 2018.

Molaba plays Karabo ‘KB’ Molapo in the Netflix South Africa drama series Blood & Water since season one. He made his Hollywood debut as Lethabo Khoza in Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, in November 2025. The film features Molaba alongside big names such as Woody Harrelson and Morgan Freeman.

Aside from acting, Molaba has been modelling for many fashion houses and brands. He was cast in a TV ad for Wimpy and has had campaigns for 5FM, Ackermans, Edgars, Shades of Beauty, Samson Clothing, Boss, Huawei Pura 80 Pro, and Schweppes. He has also been dressed by top designers such as Rich Mnisi.

As a model, Molaba is signed to Ice Models, based in Johannesburg. The modelling agency had rejected him for two years. He has also worked with Pretoria-based designers. He was named GQ’s Best Dressed Young Creative 2025.
