Dawie Roodt (born 20 June 1961) is a South African economist. He is best known as the Chief Economist and a founding director of the Efficient Group.
Roodt received an honorary membership of the Golden Key International Honour Society in 2012. He has over 30 years of experience in economic and political analysis. He is also a member of the Institute of Directors of South Africa and was the economic editor of a financial publication.

Early Life
Dawie Roodt was born on 20 June 1961. He holds a Master’s degree in economics (cum laude). Aside from his formal studies, he also studied communism.
Career
Roodt has over 30 years of experience in economics and political analysis. He worked as an economist at the South African Reserve Bank for nine years. He was also an economics editor for a financial publication.
In 2007, he received his national colours for powered paragliding. He also represented South Africa at the World Championship in China. He is a director of the Free Market Foundation.
The economist published his first book, “Tax, Lies and Red Tape”, in 2013. He became an honorary member of the Golden Key International Honour Society in 2012. He is also a member of the Institute of Directors of South Africa.
In 2013, he received a lifetime honorary membership of the Zoological Society of South Africa. He is also a counsel member of SAIRR and the World Farmers Organisation, and was a member of BUSA and NEDLAC.
Roodt has made TV and radio appearances and comments in the printed and electronic media. He has presented over 1,000 television programs and 1,500 radio programs and is a columnist for several publications.
He has been the anchor presenter of the TV program Ontbytsake for many years. He was recognized for his achievements in academics, broadcasting, and public speaking.
Roodt is an MBA lecturer on macro-economics at the University of Pretoria’s Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS). He is also a frequent guest lecturer locally and internationally.
In March 2015, Roodt presented a lecture titled ‘Foes, follies and budgetary woes’. He received the prestigious Economist of the Year award from Media 24. He gives back to society through charities.
Personal Life
Dawie Roodt is married to Marina, a former Russian veterinarian. They met in 2004 in Saint Petersburg and got married a few months later. They celebrated 17 years of marriage in 2021.
Roodt has four children with his wife. His eldest daughter, Danielle, holds a PhD in Genetics. His son, Kristoff, studied Law. He also has two twin daughters, Daria and Yulia. They live on a smallholding in Pretoria East, where his wife grows vegetables.
Roodt and his family were attacked by robbers at their Pretoria home in 2015. He is a keen traveler with an interest in Africa. He speaks Afrikaans and English.
