Bongani Fassie (born 26 August 1985) is a South African music producer and reality TV star, best known as the son of Brenda Fassie.
He appeared in the Showmax reality TV show I Blew It (Season 5, Episode 13), where he shared about how he was involved in partying, alcohol, and drugs. He is set to launch a documentary tribute to his late mother, Brenda Fassie.

Early Life
Bongani Fassie was born on 26 August 1985 to Big Dudes band member Dumisani Ngubeni and the late legendary singer Brenda Fassie.
Coming from a music background contributed to making Fassie develop interest in music. His father played keyboard for the music band, Big Dudes, where he was a member. His mother was a singer, songwriter, and activist.
Bongani spent more time with his mother as a child. Though she had wanted him to study Law, he chose to follow in her footsteps. His mother later married Nhlanhla Mbambo in 1989, but their union did not last, they divorced in 1991.
Career
Bongani Fassie is a member of the hip-hop outfit Jozi, with Da L.E.S. and Ishmael. He is also a member of the band Big Dudes and plays drums, piano, congas, and guitar. He later started his solo music career and produced hip-hop and pop hits.
At age 10, Fassie released his debut solo album, African Boy. He and two other celebrities were documented in season 2 of an e.tv constructed reality series in 2014. They performed community service tasks together and also used their fame to make others better.
Bongani performed “I’m So Sorry”, a song dedicated to his mother, on the soundtrack to the 2005 Academy Award-winning movie Tsotsi. He released the album Rise 2013.
He is set to launch a documentary tribute to his late mother Brenda Fassie – Through My Eyes – at Preview Theatre at Arena Holdings, Parktown in 2025.
The award-winning musician Bongani made a comeback to the small screen on Moja Love‘s reality show Finding Bongani in 2021. He is a nominee in the Legend, Lifetime Achievement category at the 2025 Clevenard Radio Music Awards (CRMA).
Personal Life
Bongani Fassie and his longtime girlfriend, Buhle Sangweni, have separated. The duo parted ways following a domestic violence incident at their Fourways apartment. He later moved on to dating his manager, B’Queen, but it did not last.
After his relationship with B’Queen, Fassie started dating his new manager, Kay Bhengu. He has two children, Brenda and Bongani. He took them away from his on-and-off partner, Buhle, in 2023.
Bongani lost his mother, Brenda Fassie, in May 2004 after she spent 13 days at Sunninghill Hospital. In 2024, he hosted a night of music and fun at Tycoon Lounge in Bryanston to celebrate and honor her.
According to Zimoja, Bongani was locked out of his rented apartment in Fourways, Johannesburg, after failing to pay R17,500 in rent. He squatted at his friend’s house with his children until he called Sello “Chicco” Twala,” who rescued him with a R80,000 cash.
In 2023, Bongani was attacked with a machete while travelling home with his friend. He was at a traffic light during the time of the assault. He escaped after sustaining deep cuts to his left arm and severe bruises to his head.
