Gretha Wiid: Biography, Age, Husband, Books & Qualifications

Gretha Wiid (born 23 May 1972) is a South African author, public speaker, and marriage counselor. She is best known for her conservative Christian views on marriage, sex, and relationships.

Wiid is the founder of the Christian “Worthy Woman” movement. She is a relationship ‘expert’ in the Afrikaans community. Her views on sexuality have been a subject of both wide appeal and significant controversy.

Education

Gretha Wiid holds an honours degree in African languages from the University of Pretoria. She also has a BA (HED), an honours in B.Ed (Educational Psychology), and a VDO postgraduate (in Sex Education).

Career

Wiid has worked as an educator and sex educationist for many years. She began her career as a teacher and later transitioned into public speaking. She has also led marriage retreats.

She is the author of two sex education books, “Lyfslim vir Seuns” and “Lyfslim vir Meisies“. They were first published in 2019 and were written for an adolescent and young teenager audience.

Her views on homosexuality in her books and workshops were met with disbelief and anger from members of the LGBTQ community. She had suggested that homosexuality could be a result of an absent father figure or sexual abuse.

Wiid signed a settlement with the SAHRC after the commission received 77 complaints about her book in May 2017. She was ordered not to talk about homosexuality in public again‚ and had to edit anywhere she called homosexuality “sorrowful” in her book.

She wrote her books from a Christian perspective and published them by a Christian publishing house. She has given extensive presentations and workshops at schools across Gauteng. She focuses on the subject of sexual development and sex education.

Wiid has also been invited to deliver motivational talks at schools. She talked about self-esteem, self-acceptance, bullying, and peer pressure, among other things. She is the founder of the “Worthy Woman” movement.

She has hosted mass conferences that promote a specific interpretation of biblical gender roles. She and her husband have appeared in many magazines as a “supposedly shining example” of Christian ideals.

On her website, Wiid has many products, including relationship, teen, and family advice books, as well as perfumes.

Personal Life

Gretha Wiid is married to Francois. The two are both marriage consultants who speak publicly about their marital journey. She has four daughters.

In 2015, her daughter, Ghitte Wiid, suffered a concussion when she fell headfirst off a wall during a family vacation in Margate, KwaZulu-Natal. She was playing hide-and-seek with friends and landed headfirst on the pavement.
