Owami Mafokate (born 20 September 2001) is a South African musical artist, internet personality, DJ, entrepreneur, and brand ambassador. She is best known as the daughter of the kwaito king, Arthur Mafokate.
Mafokate made her television debut spinning the decks, live on YoTV. She debuted her Amapiano single, “Let’s Get It On,” featuring Valentine, in 2019. She was featured in Showmax’s new reality show Born Into Fame.

Early Life
Owami Mafokate was born on 20 September 2001 to the kwaito king, Arthur Mafokate, and singer Queen Iyaya Sesoko.
Her elder brother, Arthur Junior Mafokate, who is a music producer and DJ, showed her the ropes. She developed an interest in music at the age of 13 and decided to learn DJing from him. She started dancing at the age of five and performing shortly thereafter.
Education
Mafokate studied Entrepreneurship (BCom).
Career
At first, Owami wanted to be an advocate, a pilot, or an accountant, but her passion for music was stronger. She started her music career as a disc jockey and has performed in clubs. She debuted her Amapiano single, Let’s Get It On, featuring Valentine, in 2019.
Owami has also collaborated with other musical artists, including Kenza, Sonke, Don Scott, Mthunzi, and Rockcee. She promotes her crafts on the monetised platform TikTok and is also paid to do campaigns and challenges.
She released her 7-track debut album Ready in 2021, having worked on the project since 2019. Her album tracks include “Ngibambeni”, “Dubai”, “Mphe”, “Joyful”, “Malome“, and “Good Time“.
DJ Owami has also been featured on other artists’ singles, including “Thita” by DJ Ngcebo RSA, “KASSONGO YEYE” by Four4dy, and “Ungowami C-hle & Mshege” by Four4dy.
Owami appeared alongside her older brother in Showmax’s reality show “Born Into Fame”. She owns a company, Queendom Media. She was crowned the 2021 Best Female DJ at the inaugural SA Amapiano Awards.
Personal Life
Owami Mafokate has three siblings: a brother, Arthur Junior Mafokate, and two younger sisters, Kelello Mafokate and Onalenna Mafokate. She is based in Johannesburg.
