Vusiwe Ngcobo (born 26 September 1988) is a South African sportscaster, lawyer, and singer. She is best known for her work on SABC Sports.

She went from a television child star to a finance and banking lawyer at one of South Africa’s top firms, Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr. She has worked as a presenter for SABC Sports.

Early Life

Vusiwe Ngcobo was born on 26 September 1988 in Johannesburg, Gauteng, to the legendary musicians Bheki “Ihhashi Elimhlophe” Ngcobo and Linah “Ebony” Ngcobo. She has three siblings, Nkosinathi, Ntombi, and Jabu.

Growing up in a musical family and being the daughter of legendary musicians contributed to her love of music. She also watched presenter Mandisa Nakana on a show, which sparked her interest in becoming a presenter.

Her parents, who were also in the industry, helped her and her siblings navigate through. At home, her parents treated them like normal children, sharing chores and financial responsibilities among them.

Education

After high school, Vusiwe applied to study a Bachelor’s of Arts in Dramatic Arts at the University of Johannesburg. She changed her mind during the orientation week and studied the LLB degree for four years in 2009.

She further obtained an MBA from the University of Stellenbosch Business School in 2021. She decided to study full-time after realizing that job security could become a long-term problem in the entertainment industry.

Career

Vusiwe Ngcobo entered the entertainment industry at the age of eight, when she and her siblings formed the group Amaponi, which translates to Baby Horses in English. As a group, they released their debut album in 1998 and performed around the world, while still attending school.

The group shook up the entertainment scene in the early 2000s. She and her sister, Ntombi, were known for their signature boxed braids or spiked afros.

After releasing five albums, their interest began to divert from singing. She then wanted to venture into television presenting. In 2000, Amaponi was on YoTV for an interview.

While at the university, she landed a stint as a ring announcer for boxing tournaments aired on SABC Sport.

In 2004, she began presenting the television program YoTV after being asked to stand in for one of the presenters. She remained as the presenter for five years.

Ngcobo works as a finance and banking lawyer at Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr, Johannesburg. She joined the firm in 2013 as a candidate attorney. After two years, she became an associate in the department’s dispute resolution. She handles finance and banking legal affairs.

Vusiwe went on a break from presenting in 2013. She presented on Open Varsity on SABC2 Education’s programme.

Ngcobo works as a sports presenter for SABC and joined as a voice-over artist for Sports Buzz in 2010. She also presented special events, including the Olympics, Paralympics, marathons, and boxing. She fronted the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) broadcast from Morocco.

She won the GSport Awards in 2023, hosted the 2024 edition, and returned as a finalist in 2025. At the 2025 GSport Awards, Ngcobo, Gloria Brown, and Layla Arrison were nominated for the SABC Sport Woman in TV.

She is part of the ‘Love Life CBL Team’, a group of celebrities that travel around South Africa. They educate young people about HIV and AIDS. She is currently a sports broadcaster for SABC Sport and SABC News.
